Private Pilot License (PPL)

A private Pilot License (PPL) is a license that qualifies its holder to fly on single-engine aircraft only. The Private Pilot License differs from Sport Pilot License in several aspects, such as; restrictions on certain altitudes and distances, the number of carrying passengers, and the types of aircraft used for this category.

Privileges

 

  • Fly on non-jet engine aircraft according to the specific category
  • Fly during the daytime using visual flight rules (VFR), and the visibility range should be more than 5 Km.
  • Fly up to 15,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

 

 

Limitations

 

  • Fly on aircraft that require the training team from the manufacturing company.
  • Fly during the night from sunset to sunrise.
  • Fly at the lower visibility range (less than 5 Km).
  • Fly at altitudes of more than 15,000 feet above sea level (MSL).
  • Commercial use

Obtaining the license

After completing the theoretical test and the practical requirements for the license, the instructor will sign the practical test form from GACA to determine the test date by the testers accredited by GACA.

Requirements:
  • Be a member of the Saudi Aviation Club
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Pass the English Language Proficiency (ELP) ‎ Exam at the 4th level.
  • Pass the AIP (Saudi Civil Aviation Systems) exam by a minimum of 80%.
  • Meet medical eligibility of 3rd class
  • Student Pilot license
  • Total of 40 hours of flying at least, 30 hours with an instructor and 10 hours solo
  • Pass the written and practical exams
Fees:
  • Fees range between 650 to 1,200 SAR/hour
    (Depending on the type of aircraft)
  • Instructor fees: 375 SAR
  • * Fees are exclusive of VAT 15%
